Saturday at Fort Morgan, we’ll play a part in the fort’s
annual re-enactment of the Battle of Mobile Bay, by splitting into two groups,
one representing the Union fleet and one the Confederate fleet; and cruising off
the fort as the shore batteries are fired in both morning and afternoon
sessions. See attached flyers, map
and photo for more details of the day’s events.

Afternoon raft-up in Navy Cove.
Possible dinner at Fort Morgan Marina/Tacky Jack’s II at skippers’
discretion.
Sunday, August 8:
Boats return to FYC.
Re-enactment:
Saturday morning at about 10:00 AM,
boats will form in Navy Cove into two groups: a primary group representing the
Union fleet, and a smaller (2-4 boats) group representing the Confederate fleet.
The Union fleet will proceed to a point west of the shore battery (see
map and photo attached); the Confederate fleet will proceed to a point off the
fort’s fishing pier, just west of the ferry landing.
At 11:00 AM, the shore batteries will begin firing.
The Union fleet will simulate running the fort’s defenses, cruising east
under the guns, turning back west at a point somewhere west of the fishing pier;
and continue this east/west run until the battery ceases fire around 12:00 PM.
The Confederate fleet will cruise west to “engage” the Union boats at a
point somewhere to the east of the battery (the Confederate boats
should not come to a point “under the
guns” of the fort); turn east when the Union fleet turns west, and re-engage as
the Union boats come east again.
From 12:00PM – 1:00PM, all boats
can stand down and cruise off the fort.
At 1:00PM, we’ll form up again –
the Union boats will form up at a point west of the shore battery; the
Confederate boats off the fishing pier.
Additional boats can join the Confederate fleet as available, but the
Confederate force should be no more than 4-5 boats so as to be smaller than the
Union force – this simulates the size of the respective fleets in the actual
battle. Sailing will be as per the
morning plan. The shore battery will
begin firing at 1:15 PM and end at 2:30 PM.
